a prayer for travellers

They left just minutes ago in a maze of cables . Playstation hooked up to a small TV/VCR combo strapped between the front seats with the cell phone plugged into the cigarette lighter and the battery charger and the cooler tucked into the passenger seat. Pillows and blankets are piled up next to the back-seat window and Evangeline's new book is pushed into the pocket of the seat in front of her. Nicholas has the middle back seat because he suffers from motion sickness; he inherited that from me.

They're excited. The long drive is a grand adventure for them--movies, junk food, car games, and American gas stations (you haven't lived until you've been in one of those!). We've done it together many times, but I'm not going this time.

And I miss them already--Desperately, hauntingly, worriedly, franticly. Let me protect them with one more kiss. Please let them be safe.

Come home soon.

Mommy loves you.

time passes quickly, they'll be back before you know it, safely wrapped in your arms.

A tear comes to my eye - they will be safe and thinking of you as much as you are of them!
